ADHD ASSESSMENT CLINIC

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is characterised by symptoms of hyperactivity, inattention, and/or impulsivity, which can significantly impact daily functioning. ADHD may also be accompanied by additional challenges that can be impairing for young people, adults, and families. These challenges can include difficulties with self-esteem, learning, mood regulation, relationships, and anxiety.

The presentation of ADHD can vary widely, and it is important to recognise that males and females may exhibit different symptoms. We take great care in our assessments to consider all factors that may contribute to the difficulties experienced by the child or young person.

IN SUMMARY AN ADHD ASSESSMENT WILL INCLUDE:

  • Screening questionnaires sent out for the patient to complete. Review of forms and also any previous school, psychology or medical reports.

  • A detailed interview about the problems as well as any other problems.

  • A full clinical assessment with the referred person.

  • An interview/conversation with a family member who knows the referred person well.

  • A comprehensive ADHD assessment report, provided to the person having the assessment and the referrer.

  • A feedback session, providing psychoeducation and information regarding recommendations.

  • A report following the feedback session.

  • Post-diagnostic support includes psychoeducation, lifestyle management, parenting/individual sessions, occupational therapy, psychological sessions and medication, if indicated.

  • With prescribing, this is always in addition to other recommendations and strategies.

  • Eleos Clinic aims to empower people to find the best skills to manage their symptoms and through our experience, we recognise that medication can unlock the potential for many people. However this should be alongside other helpful tools - taking a more holistic approach to treatment.

  • Prescribing involves understanding the child's medical history, taking in consideration the symptoms profile and discussing the various options available. A physical exam and/or physical health monitoring will be required before prescribing takes place and will be discussed in the review session. This is the ensure that safe prescribing takes place and treatment is optimised for the benefit of the patient.

We provide comprehensive ADHD assessments which includes information from school/work and home settings. If there have been previous assessments or interventions, we would like to understand these further and review this as part of the assessment process. We also provide second opinions. We complete assessments using a strengths based approach.

We can book in a one stop clinical assessment and provide a treatment plan on the same day for most people. We use a variety of questionnaires and validated tools to help in the diagnostic assessment..

This conversation can be completed virtually or in person. Our ADHD assessment process is detailed and usually takes 90 minutes of talking to the child and taking a collateral history when possible from family members, in addition to reviewing questionnaires and other reports.

After the assessment, an ADHD report with recommendations will be completed and shared via a secure link. Eleos Clinic recommends sharing this report with the individual's GP and other key people in their life to help them better understand the challenges and implement effective strategies.

A full diagnosis—whether it confirms ADHD, identifies other conditions, or both—will be discussed during the follow-up appointment. This appointment is crucial, as it provides an opportunity to explore evidence-based treatments and interventions for ADHD (if confirmed), as well as address any other issues identified during the assessment.

We provide a formulation—a shared understanding of the challenges the child is facing—using the patient’s own words to develop personalised recommendations tailored to their unique needs. We recognise that everyone has their own individual differences and lifestyle, and our goal is to help people better understand how their brain works while empowering them with practical strategies to enhance their lives and reach their full potential. Our recommendations focus on actionable strategies that can be implemented at home, in the workplace, and within educational settings.
